Finely crafted.
Handmade furniture, built to last a lifetime.
Following his studies in Fine Arts at Monash University, Patrick undertook a pre-apprenticeship in Furniture making and Joinery, leading to an apprenticeship as a Cabinet Maker. Ten years later, following a practice-led investigation into fine woodworking, Patrick established Studio Adeney in Hobart, Tasmania.
Over the past five years, Patrick has developed a collection of work through a series of fundamental design principles. This vernacular re-emphasises evidence of construction, attention to detail, and seeks to elevate a functional item into the artistic sphere. These principles were honed through exploration, experimentation, exhibition, repetition, failure and resolution.
Patrick’s first solo exhibition in Hobart, July 2022 was titled: ‘Concept to Collection’. The exhibition exposed the processes used to achieve cohesion across a body of work. Both the ‘Mara’ bench and ‘Arlo’ stool featured in this exhibition were awarded a commendation at ‘Australia’s Next Top Designer’, in Sydney, October 2022.
Following this, Patrick received a commendation at the VIVID emerging designer awards in the Furniture category for his ‘Winslow lounge chair’ in Melbourne, July 2023. Later that year, Patrick was awarded the prestigious $20,000 Clarence prize for excellence in Furniture Design for his ‘Winslow’ Lounge chair.
In May 2024, Patrick’s second solo exibition was included in the Melbourne Design Week program and entitled: ‘Collection in Progress.’ This exhibition brought the developed work into a new context and audience.
In late 2024, Patrick relocated to Melbourne, to support his growing practice. His work has been published in magazines including: Green Magazine, Houses Magazine, The Local Project, and British Vogue.
Patrick is included in the 2025 NGV’s Rigg Design Prize: 35 under 35, at the Ian Potter Centre, Federation Square. The exhibition showcases the next generation of Australian Design, and is open to the public from September 19- February 1st.
